PETKIT Review: Four Self-Cleaning Litter Boxes, What They Cost per Year and What Owners Report
6 self-cleaning litter boxes, 2 no longer sold, $199.99 to $799.99. PETKIT is worth a look if you want a rotating self-cleaning litter box for less than a Litter-Robot and you'll run it through the PETKIT app. The Purobot Max 3 is the model we'd point most one- and two-cat homes to: $399.99 on sale against $499.99 list at petkit.com on 10/09/2026, a 7 L bin PETKIT rates at up to 15 days for one cat, and a 2-year warranty on US purchases made on or after 01/01/2025. The catch is the data gap: PETKIT's Max 3 product description says 35 dB while the FAQ on the same page says 45 dB, nobody has published a noise reading with conditions for any current model, and the CARE+ video plan has no price printed anywhere we could find. If your cat is under 3.3 lb or six months old, every PETKIT manual rules these boxes out.

Lineup
Four litter boxes are on petkit.com US as of 10/09/2026; the PuraMax 2 and Pura X were pulled and their URLs redirect to the Purobot Max 3. All four share a 3.3 lb (1.5 kg) minimum cat weight and the 2-year warranty on purchases from 01/01/2025. petkit.com blocked our tools during the price re-check on 10/14/2026, so the prices here are from 10/09/2026.
| Model | Design | petkit.com price, 10/09/2026 (sale / list) | Camera | Waste capacity for one cat (PETKIT's figure) | Entry height | On sale since |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PETKIT Purobot Max 3 | Rotating drum, 76 L | $399.99 / $499.99 | None | 7 L bin, up to 15 days | 8.03 in | 07/2026 |
| PETKIT Purobot Max Pro 2 | Rotating drum, 76 L | $499.99 / $599.99 | 1080p, fixed, one-way audio | 8 L bin, up to 17 days | 10.03 in | 09/2025 |
| PETKIT Purobot Ultra | Rotating drum, 70 L, auto-bagging | $799.99 / $899.99 | 1080p, two-way audio | 10 L bin, up to 20 days | 10.43 in | 08/2024 |
| PETKIT Purobot Crystal Duo | Open-top rake, disposable crystal tray | $199.99 / $299.99 (white) | 1080p, fill light | One tray, up to 30 days | 7.08 in | 07/2025 |
Prices are the "Sale price / Regular price" pair on each product page; the Crystal Duo also comes in gray at $159.99 and with a hood at $229.99. The Ultra was $799.99 on Amazon the same day; we did not open Amazon or Chewy for the other three. The discontinued PuraMax 2 still matters: the seller PETKIT-US lists it on Amazon at $299.99 against $389.99 list (10/09/2026), $100 under the Max 3 for what is, by footprint and consumables, the same box with an older entry; see our PETKIT PuraMax 2 review.
Warranty and returns
Every current PETKIT litter box bought in the US on or after 01/01/2025 gets two years instead of one. The warranty page (petkit.com, 10/09/2026) starts from "a 1-year limited warranty from the date of delivery" and then lists the upgrade: "the warranty period for the following specific products has been upgraded to 2 years. Applicable Models: Purobot Ultra, Purobot Max 3, Purobot Max Pro/2, PuraMax 2, Purobot Crystal Duo," for purchases "through the PETKIT official website or authorized distributors in the United States." The Pura X stays at one year, and the page adds: "We do not provide repair services for products that have exceeded their original warranty period."
Returns are 30 calendar days from delivery with prior authorization (policy updated 06/05/2026), and the line that trips owners up is "Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer unless the return is due to a verified product quality issue." Dirty returns "may incur a cleaning fee of up to $50." Shipping is free over $39, $5.99 under, contiguous US only, no PO boxes.
CARE+ cloud plan and what works without it
PETKIT CARE+ has no printed price. We looked on all four product pages and FAQs, the petkit.com site search, the App Store in-app purchase list, the Google Play listing, and web search on 10/09/2026, and again on 10/14/2026, and found the plan named but never priced.
What it gates is playback. The comparison table on the Ultra, Max Pro 2, and Crystal Duo pages carries the tooltip "Care+ for 30-day video history"; live view and alerts are free per the Crystal Duo FAQ. An Ultra owner (petkit.com, 02/08/2026): "It's a shame the playback is behind a paywall (Care+), but they give you a month free to decide." The three camera models also need the app to start: the Ultra manual (T6 V1.3, p. 36) says "Bind the app before first-time use. The device can operate only after successful binding," and offline the box "will operate according to your preset settings" while the app stops updating (Ultra FAQ).
The Purobot Max 3 has no camera, so CARE+ doesn't apply, and it's the only current model PETKIT says runs from the top panel: "Instant Clean, Odor Control, Litter Leveling, Maintenance Mode, Wi-Fi Setup, and more." The Crystal Duo does have a camera and the CARE+ tooltip; one owner (petkit.com, 01/12/2026) wrote, "I did not realize it was a subscription purchase." Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz only on the Max 3; the other three list 2.4 and 5 GHz.
Consumables for a year
For the rotating boxes, the one consumable with a vendor interval is the N50 2.0 odor cartridge: $19.99 for three on petkit.com (10/09/2026), replaced "Approx. every 30 days" per the Max 3 manual (T4-3 V1.1, p. 19), about $81 a year. The Max Pro 2 manual says only "Please replace it regularly," so we use the Max 3 interval.
Bags: the PETKIT pack is "1 Pack (5 Rolls)" at $29.99, and the product page specifies "5 rolls (20 pieces in one roll)," 100 bags (petkit.com, 10/14/2026), about $0.30 a bag. PETKIT's bin figures imply 21 to 24 changes a year for one cat, about $7 in bags, and the Max Pro 2 FAQ allows standard bags that aren't "too thick or sized differently."
The Ultra needs PETKIT's NFC-coded Refill Ring, $35.99 for three; the FAQ says "the auto waste packing system requires PETKIT's exclusive refill rings" and that "One piece of refill ring can pack approximately 10 times, and the waste bin can hold one cat's waste for up to 20 days," figures "tested by PETKIT Lab." That yields a ring count only if you assume one pack per bin-full, which PETKIT doesn't state. Its N60 cartridge is $19.99 for three at "About two months" each (manual T6 V1.3, p. 35), about $41 a year. The Ultra page still prints no ring count per year (petkit.com, 10/14/2026).
The Crystal Duo is the expensive one to run. It takes only the PETKIT Crystal Litter Set, $79.99 for four disposable trays (manual T7 V1.0, p. 26: "Do not use crystal cat litter or litter trays from other brands"), and PETKIT gives two lifespans on one page, "up to 30 days" and "up to 45 days for optimal performance." At 30 days a tray, a year is about $243 before tax, more than the $199.99 box. An owner (petkit.com, 05/25/2026): "Paying $75 for four trays, plus tax, is steep."
Recalls
No CPSC recall found for any PETKIT litter box as of 10/14/2026: the saferproducts.gov recall API returned 0 results for "petkit" and for "litter box" on 10/09/2026 and again on 10/14/2026, and the cpsc.gov recall list had no PETKIT entry on 10/09/2026.
Claimed vs independent
PETKIT's noise numbers disagree with each other. The Purobot Max 3 page says "whisper-quiet 35dB operation" in the description and, in its own FAQ, "engineered to operate at a whisper-quiet 45dB" (petkit.com, 10/09/2026). The Max Pro 2 Specs tab reads "Relax in 35 dB Whisper Quiet." The Ultra's 36 dB appears only in a PETKIT product-introduction deck hosted by a Swiss retailer (ipet.ch, pp. 5 and 13), not on the US page. The Crystal Duo has no noise claim.
| Figure | PETKIT's number | Independent reading |
|---|---|---|
| Max 3 cycle noise | 35 dB (description) and 45 dB (FAQ), same page | not independently measured |
| Max Pro 2 cycle noise | 35 dB (Specs) | not independently measured |
| Ultra cycle noise | 36 dB (product deck only) | not independently measured |
| Crystal Duo rake noise | not stated by PETKIT | not independently measured; one owner (petkit.com, 05/25/2026) calls it "extremely loud" |
| Ultra bin, one cat | up to 20 days (10 L), "tested by PETKIT Lab" | not measured; owners report "it only lasts fir a week with my 17 pound cat" (10/25/2025) and two cats packed twice a month (11/11/2025), both petkit.com |
We checked five YouTube descriptions and transcripts for the Ultra, three Max Pro 2 video titles, and the cats.com reviews of the Ultra (Katelynn Sobus, 10/03/2025) and PuraMax 2 (12/10/2025); none publish a dB figure or a bin-days count with conditions. For the Max 3, released 07/2026, no independent review had surfaced by 10/09/2026.
What owners say
Not enough owner reviews read yet for any current PETKIT model: everything we could read sits in the Judge.me widget on petkit.com, and reviews on a brand's own site don't count toward our Owner Complaint Index. For the Ultra and the Max Pro 2 we read the 50 most recent reviews each in the Judge.me widget on petkit.com (Ultra: 06/05/2025 to 08/10/2026, 4.6 over 83; Max Pro 2: 12/30/2025 to 10/07/2026, 4.7 over 213). Amazon's aggregate for the Ultra was 4.2 over 399 ratings on 10/09/2026, with a review summary citing "reports of units breaking within 5 months"; individual Amazon reviews needed a sign-in, and Chewy and Reddit were blocked.
Max Pro 2, 50 reviews: odor control comes up in 15, almost all as praise; app and Wi-Fi in 11; noise in 8, six of them positive. The most common hard complaint is cats refusing the box, 5 of 50: "We set this up for our 5 cats ..ages 1 year to 10 years.. and no takers so far.. it's been a week" (09/21/2026).
Ultra, 50 reviews: odor in 13, nearly all praise for the sealed door; app and Wi-Fi in 6; cats not using it in 4. The structural complaint is the packing step. PETKIT's FAQ says "The auto waste packing process requires users to be present next to the device," and an owner (12/08/2025) describes it: "once the waste bin is full, the cleaning cycle stops completely, and you have to manually trigger the 'auto-packing' while standing by the machine."
Max 3 and Crystal Duo: 12 and 30 reviews read, also on petkit.com. The Max 3 widget shows 4.5 over 188, but that pools in 38 legacy PuraMax 2 reviews; only 12 of the 50 most recent are on the Max 3. Crystal Duo, all 30 read (10/02/2025 to 05/25/2026, 4.0): Wi-Fi pairing in 9 of 30, a bent rake out of the box (10/02/2025), praise from owners whose older cats refused hooded boxes.
App and privacy
The PETKIT app rates 4.6 of 5 over about 21,000 App Store ratings and 3.8 over 5,580 on Google Play as of 10/09/2026. The App Store privacy card, developer-reported and not verified by Apple, lists only "Data Not Linked to You": Identifiers, Usage Data, Diagnostics, and Coarse Location. Google Play's Data safety card says the app "may share these data types with third parties: Photos and videos," "No data collected," and data "is encrypted in transit"; the Crystal Duo FAQ adds that "camera footage is encrypted and stored in the cloud." Google Play states "2.4 GHz Wi-Fi required (5 GHz supported on select models)," and the Max 3 is the 2.4 GHz-only model.

What we checked: the four petkit.com product pages, Specs tabs, FAQs, and comparison tables on 10/09/2026; the T4-3, T5-2, T6, and T7 manuals; the warranty, return, and shipping policies; 142 owner reviews on petkit.com and the Amazon listing for the Ultra; the App Store and Google Play listings; the CPSC recall database on 10/09/2026 and 10/14/2026.
Buy if: you want a rotating box with a 2-year warranty for $399.99 on sale, your cats are over 3.3 lb and six months, and you'll use the app for setup. Start with the Purobot Max 3: same 7 L bin and N50 consumables as the PuraMax 2, no camera and so no CARE+ question, and a top panel PETKIT says covers the basics. Pay $499.99 for the Max Pro 2 only for the camera and 10.03 in entry; pay $799.99 for the Ultra only if auto-bagging matters and you've read the FAQ line about standing next to it.
Skip if: your cat is under 3.3 lb (1.5 kg) or six months, which every PETKIT manual rules out; you want a published noise number you can trust, since PETKIT's own page gives two; you want playback without an unpriced subscription; or you have several large cats, where owners call the Ultra's inside "surprisingly snug" (petkit.com, 02/05/2026) and the Crystal Duo's trays run about $243 a year. Questions people ask
What is the newest PETKIT litter box?
The Purobot Max 3, published on petkit.com on 07/17/2026 at $399.99 sale against $499.99 list (10/09/2026). It replaces the PuraMax 2, keeps the 7 L bin and 15-day one-cat figure, and adds a 10.51 by 10.74 in entry. See the lineup table above.
Is the PETKIT litter box worth it?
For a one- or two-cat home that wants a rotating box under $400, yes, the Max 3: about $481 before tax for the first year at the sale price with a year of N50 cartridges, plus about $7 in bags. The Ultra at $799.99 is harder to justify without a CARE+ price. The best automatic litter boxes page puts both against Whisker, Neakasa, and PetSafe.
Is Litter-Robot better than PETKIT?
They split on price and terms. The Max 3 is $399.99 on sale at petkit.com (10/09/2026) with a 2-year US warranty and 30-day returns; the Litter-Robot 4 is $699 at litter-robot.com (10/14/2026) with a 1-year warranty and a 90-day in-home trial. No PETKIT model has an independent noise reading. Compare the Litter-Robot 4 review with the lineup table here.
Is the PETKIT litter box safe?
PETKIT describes the protections in its own words: "12 sensors track movement and weight in real time. If your cat steps in mid-cycle, the cylinder stops immediately" (Max 3 page) and "20 high precision sensors" with "X-axis rotation to keep the entrance open at all times" (Ultra FAQ). The manuals rule out cats under 3.3 lb and six months, and the CPSC had no PETKIT recall on 10/14/2026.
Does PETKIT still sell the PuraMax 2?
Not on petkit.com, where its URL redirects to the Purobot Max 3 as of 10/09/2026. The seller PETKIT-US lists it on Amazon at $299.99 (list $389.99) with 4.2 stars over 2,620 ratings. Our PETKIT PuraMax 2 review covers the manual limits and what changed in the Max 3.
