Does iRobot Make a Litter Box? No — Here's the Robot Litter Box People Mean
No. iRobot does not make a litter box: its US site sells robot vacuums, robot mops, vacuum-mop combos, a disinfecting floor cleaner, and accessories, and lists no litter box or cat litter product (irobot.com, 10/09/2026). The robot litter box most people mean is the Litter-Robot, made by Whisker, a separate company that support pages place in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Whisker sells four current models from $599 to $899 at litter-robot.com (10/14/2026).
What iRobot actually makes
iRobot's US store navigation on 10/09/2026 reads "Vacuums," "Combos," "Disinfecting Floor Cleaner," and "Accessories," with "Robot Mops" in the footer. There is no litter box, litter, or cat-care category, and nothing on the home page mentions one.
The confusion is mostly in the names. "iRobot" and "Litter-Robot" share a word, both are robots for the home, and search suggestions blend them: people type "irobot litter box," "roomba kitty litter," and "little robot cat litter" looking for the same thing. Whisker writes its product as "Litter-Robot" with a hyphen; "Litter Robot" without it is how most people type it into search.
The Roomba feature that mentions cat waste
The one place iRobot talks about cats is a vacuum promise, not a litter box. Its US "Pet Owner Official Promise," shortened to P.O.O.P., says: "if your Roomba® j7+ robot encounters pet waste that it doesn't avoid, we will replace your robot at no cost to you" (irobot.com/en_US/us-pet-promise.html, 10/09/2026). The page limits it: "Offer valid for 1 year from purchase," it "covers replacement product only," and it is "Valid only for solid cat or dog waste." The page names only the Roomba j7+ and links to separate terms, which our tools could not open (irobot.com showed a verification screen on 10/14/2026); whether the promise applies to newer Roomba models is not stated on the page we read.
That feature steers a vacuum around a mess on the floor. It does not scoop, sift, or empty a litter box, and iRobot makes no claim that it does.
The Litter-Robot: who makes it and what it costs
Whisker's Litter-Robot is a rotating globe that sifts clumps into a waste drawer after the cat leaves. Prices at litter-robot.com on 10/14/2026, and our first-year cost with Whisker's liners and carbon filters at its own intervals, before sales tax:
| Model | Price | Cats (Whisker) | Cat weight (Whisker) | First year, before tax |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Litter-Robot EVO | $599 | one to two | 3 to 19 lb (manual p.37) | about $718 |
| Litter-Robot 4 | $699 | up to four | 3 to 25 lb (page) | about $824 |
| Litter-Robot 5 | $799 | "up to 5 cats" | 3 to 30 lb (page) | about $909 |
| Litter-Robot 5 Pro | $899 | "up to 5 cats" | 3 to 30 lb (page) | about $1,009 |
None needs a subscription to clean. Whisker+ is optional at $7.99/month after a 30-day free trial or $79.90/year (litter-robot.com, 10/14/2026), and Whisker's FAQ says the Litter-Robot 4 "will still work as a self-cleaning litter box even without WiFi." Whisker's own store adds a 90-day in-home trial and a 1-year warranty, with a three-year extension sold separately. The full line, with owner complaints and Whisker's disagreements with itself on weight limits, is in our Litter-Robot review; the most-searched model has its own Litter-Robot 4 review, and the cheapest one is weighed against it in Litter-Robot EVO vs 4.

Searching "irobot litter box" on a marketplace returns lookalikes as well as the real thing. Whisker has no official Amazon listing and publishes a counterfeit warning on its own site, and its extended plan "Does not apply to robots sold by anyone other than Whisker or Whisker-approved distributors." A unit bought elsewhere also needs manual warranty activation. The newest models, the Litter-Robot 5 and 5 Pro, launched on 10/21/2025, so a listing that calls an older or unbranded globe "the new Litter-Robot" is worth checking against litter-robot.com before you pay.
Other robot litter boxes
Whisker isn't the only maker, and several cost less to buy. The PetSafe ScoopFree SmartSpin, a rotating sphere, was $399.99 at petsafe.com on 10/14/2026. The other three stores blocked our tools on 10/14/2026, so their prices are from 10/09/2026: the PETKIT Purobot Max 3 was $399.99 on sale at petkit.com, rated for cats from 3.3 to 22 lb, with a 2-year US warranty; the Neakasa M1 Lite Plus, an open-top design, was $328.99 on sale at neakasa.com; and the CATLINK Scooper SE was $259 on sale at catlinkus.com. None of them is made by iRobot either. They are ranked side by side, with first-year costs and owner complaints, on best automatic litter boxes; the low-cost end, under $300, is on cheap automatic litter boxes.
