Which pet camera to buy
We track 8 pet cameras. Our top pick is Petcube Bites 2 Lite, scored 9.25/10. 1 of 8 with a listed plan status works with no subscription. Prices run $16 to $139.99, checked 10/14/2026.
The Petcube Bites 2 Lite is the pet camera I'd point most treat-camera shoppers to: $99.99 at petcube.com on 10/14/2026 ($149.99 list; $79.99 on Amazon on 10/09/2026), with a 160° lens, a treat tosser, and the cheapest yearly plan among the treat cameras here, Petcube Care Optimal at $59.88. The catch is what works without the plan. Petcube's free tier lists only live video, while Furbo keeps treat tossing, two-way audio, and barking alerts free. Furbo tied for the highest score on our five-point check, but it has no affiliate program we could find, so it sits below without a store link.
Petcube Bites 2 Lite (our top pick)
For a dog or cat owner who wants to toss treats and see the whole room. Petcube lists a 160° lens, 1080p, 8x digital zoom, and night vision, plus a treat hopper that "holds up to 1.5 lbs of treats" (product page, 10/14/2026), while its own user guide says "up to 2 lbs" (p. 14); both figures are Petcube's. Petcube says to use "crunchy treats with dimensions of 1 inch or less, uniform in size and shape (ideally spherical)". Price on 10/14/2026: $99.99 at petcube.com, $149.99 list; $79.99 on Amazon on 10/09/2026. First year with Care Optimal on the yearly plan: $159.87 at Petcube's price, plus sales tax that varies by state.
What held it back is Petcube's free tier. The "Basic" column on petcube.com/care lists live video and the 1-year warranty and nothing else (checked 10/14/2026); history, alerts, and downloads need Care. Petcube does not say on that page whether treat tossing works without a plan; its product FAQ says the camera "can be used out of the box" and does "not require a subscription", naming only video storage and smart alerts as what you lose (read 10/09/2026). In the Amazon reviews I read, treats were the recurring issue: "When throwing a treat, it's aim is all over the place." (11/21/2025). Amazon shows 4.0 stars from 1,587 ratings.
Petcube Cam 360 (runner-up)
For watching a whole room without treats. The Cam 360 turns "350º horizontal and 55º vertical", the only camera here with real tilt, and has a 105° lens and night vision Petcube rates "up to 30 feet in pitch-dark". It was $46.99 at petcube.com on 10/14/2026 ($52.99 list), the same as on Amazon on 10/09/2026. Petcube's site banner says "free shipping on orders over $50", while its support article says "free shipping on contiguous USA" with no threshold (both read 10/14/2026); what a single Cam 360 under $50 would pay for shipping is not printed on either page.
What held it back: the same thin free tier, and an app that owners rate 3.7 on the App Store (1,035 ratings). An App Store reviewer wrote on 04/17/2026, "Two people CANNOT open the camera at the same time." Amazon rating: 4.2 from 615.
Petcube Cam
The lowest camera-only price in this list: $31.99 at petcube.com on 10/14/2026 ($34.99 list), the same as on Amazon on 10/09/2026. A fixed 110° lens, 1080p, and night vision; you can turn the body by hand, but there is no motor. Petcube also offers a Care bundle of this camera plus a plan "starting from $5.99/mo". On its own, Care Optimal is $9.99 a month or $59.88 a year. Amazon shows 4.2 from 19,523 ratings, a count that includes other listings on the same page. The usual complaint is Wi-Fi: "didn't realize that it could only operate on 2.4GHz wifi" (Amazon, 10/21/2023).
Petcube Play 2
For cats: the only camera here with a laser toy. It has a 160° lens and was $79.99 at petcube.com on 10/14/2026 ($99.00 list) and $59.99 on Amazon on 10/09/2026. Petcube calls it a "3R class laser (class 2 in EU)", and its user guide warns "Do not point Petcube laser at your pet's eyes" and to "avoid prolonged direct eye contact" (p. 3–4). It also notes "occasional reports of dogs becoming obsessed with sources of light", which makes this a cat camera more than a dog one. Petcube prints no laser power figure in the guide. Autoplay runs "three per hour with each session lasting approximately from 30 to 60 seconds" (p. 14). Petcube's own pages disagree on zoom (8x on the page, 4x in the guide) and Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz on the page, 2.4–5 GHz in the guide).
Cameras without a store link
No affiliate program we could confirm on 10/09/2026, so no button. The closest match with a link is named for each.
Furbo 360° Dog Camera
Tied for the highest score on our five-point check, with the Furbo Mini and Wyze Cam v4, and the most generous without a plan: Furbo says live view, two-way audio, treat tossing, and a basic Barking Alert work free. It holds 100 treats and pans 360° (no tilt). The price depends on the version. Furbo's product page showed $54 against $184 on 10/09/2026 and again on 10/14/2026, without labeling a camera-only option, but the $54 needs a yearly Furbo Nanny plan at $83.92 for the first year ($95.90 after). On Amazon, "[Core Features, No Ongoing Cost]" was $184, and "[Paid Plan Required to Activate]" was $72, a version where "no features are available before activation". Amazon rating: 4.3 from 9,070, with "connectivity" the main negative tag (249 mentions). Closest match: Petcube Bites 2 Lite. Full details in the Furbo review.
Furbo Mini
A small fixed camera, 130°, no treats. $89 camera only or $16 with a yearly Nanny plan at furbo.com; $89 or $25 (plan required) on Amazon. 4.2 from 1,445 on Amazon, where "subscription" is the negative tag (32 mentions). Closest match: Petcube Cam.
Wyze Cam v4
A general home camera that also gets used as a pet cam, with a free tier built around local recording. Wyze says every camera keeps live view, two-way talk, motion detection, and "24/7 local recording" to a microSD card (sold separately, up to 256 GB). Pet detection is part of Cam Plus, $2.99 a month per camera on wyze.com's Cam Plus page (10/14/2026); the yearly price was $29.99 on a wyze.com archive copy of 09/27/2026, and Wyze's support notice about the rise from $19.99 a year did not open to our tools. It has 2.5K video and a 115.8° lens, with no pan or treats. Price: $44.98 on Amazon on 10/09/2026 and on wyze.com on 10/14/2026, with Amazon showing 4.4 stars from 11,426 ratings; "connectivity" (345) and "subscription" (203) are the negative tags. Owners on Wyze's forum in 2024 were split on whether pet detection works on the v4. Closest match: Petcube Cam.
Skymee Owl Robot
A camera on wheels that you drive around the house, with a treat dispenser for treats of "4mm-16mm". Skymee has no US store; it sells through Amazon sellers at $139.99 (3.7 stars from 107) and $139.88 (3.4 from 72) on 10/09/2026. No subscription; recording goes to a microSD card not included. The Skymee app is rated 1.8 from 111 ratings and was last updated in June 2024, and Amazon's summary for one listing says it "won't connect 95% of the time". Closest match: Petcube Bites 2 Lite.
No longer sold
The Petcube Bites 2 (with Alexa) has redirected to the Bites 2 Lite on petcube.com since mid-2023; its last listed price was $249. The eufy Pet Dog Camera D605 has redirected to a eufy blog since May 2025, and eufy had no pet camera for sale in the US on 10/09/2026. Neither is ranked.

"+ shipping" marks a camera whose shipping cost we could not find printed: Petcube's banner promises free shipping only over $50, and the Wyze line is the camera and plan alone. Prices are before sales tax. Petcube ships free over $50, Furbo ships free in the US, and Skymee showed free Amazon delivery. Warranties are 1 year for all eight. Furbo extends it to "lifetime" while a yearly Nanny plan is active, and Petcube Care Premium makes it 2 years. Returns run 45 days at Petcube and 30 days at Furbo, Wyze, and the Amazon sellers.
How to choose
- Treats or not. A treat tosser roughly doubles the price: the Petcube Bites 2 Lite and Furbo 360° against the Petcube Cam and Wyze Cam v4. Treat size matters. Petcube allows treats up to 1 inch, Furbo recommends about 0.4 inch, and Skymee 4–16 mm.
- Cats. The Play 2's laser and Furbo's 360° Cat Camera with its feather wand are the two cat-specific options.
- Plan or no plan. If you won't pay monthly, compare the "works without a plan" column, not the camera price. Wyze and Skymee record locally; Furbo keeps the most features free; Petcube keeps only live video.
- Several cameras. Petcube Care Optimal covers one camera, while Premium ($143.88 a year) covers "Unlimited cameras". Furbo adds $2 a month per extra camera, and Wyze charges Cam Plus per camera.
- Room layout. Only the Petcube Cam 360 tilts. The Furbo 360° pans, and the Skymee drives.
What it really costs in the first year
The camera is the smaller cost if you keep a plan. Over two years with the cheapest yearly plan, the Petcube Bites 2 Lite comes to $219.75 at Petcube's price ($99.99 + $59.88 + $59.88) and the Furbo 360° bundle to $233.82 ($137.92 + $95.90). Without a plan, the order flips: the Bites 2 Lite stays at $99.99 but keeps only live video, while the camera-only Furbo 360° is $184 and keeps treat tossing and alerts.
What owners complain about across the category
Connectivity first, subscriptions second. Amazon's review tags on 10/09/2026 put "connectivity" as the main negative for the Furbo 360° (249 mentions), the Wyze Cam v4 (345), and the Petcube Bites 2 Lite (65), and "subscription" for the Wyze (203) and the Furbo Mini (32). In the 27 independent Furbo reviews I read on Trustpilot and the App Store, the subscription was the top complaint (6). An App Store reviewer of Petcube complained that the app works poorly away from the home network, and a Google Play reviewer put the plan issue bluntly: "Same great video when you pay. Otherwise it doesn't." (Google Play, 05/13/2024). I read fewer than 50 independent reviews per camera, so the Owner Complaint Index is not published for any of them.
Safety and recalls
No CPSC recalls for Petcube, Furbo (Tomofun), Skymee, or eufy in the CPSC recall database on 10/14/2026, and none for "pet camera" on 10/09/2026. Wyze has one 2026 recall, 26-524 of 06/04/2026, for the Solar Cam Pan outdoor camera (fire and burn hazard), which is a different product from the Cam v4. The only safety notice specific to this category is the Play 2's laser: Petcube's user guide says not to point it at your pet's eyes or at people.
FAQ
Do pet cameras need a subscription?
No camera here requires one for live video, but the plan decides what else you get. Petcube's free tier lists only live video. Furbo keeps two-way audio, treat tossing, and barking alerts free. Wyze records to a microSD card for free. Watch for Furbo's Amazon version marked "[Paid Plan Required to Activate]": it does nothing until you subscribe.
Is Furbo or Petcube better?
Furbo keeps more features without a plan, and Petcube is cheaper with one. Without a plan, Furbo keeps treat tossing, audio, and alerts, and Petcube keeps live video. With a yearly plan, Petcube Care Optimal is $59.88 (10/14/2026) against Furbo Nanny's $83.92 in the first year and $95.90 after (10/09/2026). Furbo's side is detailed in the Furbo review.
What is the best pet camera for cats?
The Petcube Play 2, because of its laser toy: $79.99 at petcube.com on 10/14/2026, with a 160° lens. Petcube's guide says not to point the laser at your pet's eyes. Furbo also sells a 360° Cat Camera with a motorized feather wand at $184 list.
Can I use a regular security camera as a pet camera?
Yes, if you don't need treats or a laser. The Wyze Cam v4 ($44.98 on Amazon on 10/09/2026) records to a microSD card for free and offers pet detection in its $29.99-a-year Cam Plus plan. What you give up is the treat tosser, the laser, and pan.
How much does a pet camera cost per year?
The camera is a one-time $31.99 to $184 in this list. The cheapest yearly plans were $29.99 for Wyze Cam Plus (wyze.com archive copy, 09/27/2026), $59.88 for Petcube Care Optimal (10/14/2026), and $83.92 for Furbo Nanny Standard in the first year ($95.90 after, 10/09/2026). Skymee has no plan.

How we picked
I compared ten pet cameras from five brands on the same fields on 10/09/2026, and re-checked Petcube's camera and plan prices on petcube.com on 10/14/2026: price at the vendor and on Amazon, the cheapest plan per year, the list of features each vendor says work without a plan, lens, pan and tilt, night vision, treat tosser, storage, warranty, and returns. Two of the ten are no longer sold and are listed at the end, so eight are compared. I read plan pages, product FAQs and user guides, Amazon's listings and review tags, App Store listings, and owner reviews on Trustpilot and Amazon. Chewy, Reddit, and wyze.com did not open to our tools that day; for Wyze I used Amazon and a wyze.com archive copy from 09/27/2026. The method is on how we research.
All eight cameras list 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (only the Play 2's user guide also mentions 5 GHz), so check your router before buying.
