The short answer
We track 5 automatic cat feeders. Prices run $29.99 to $216.51, checked 10/14/2026.
This page has no top pick: none of the three wet food feeders in our database has a store link, and every feeder we do link to is dry-only by its own manual. On the facts, the PETLIBRO Polar is the only one that cools actively, $112.16 on Amazon on 10/09/2026 for the plastic-bowl version ($169.99 on PETLIBRO's own store on 10/14/2026), for three meals of up to 7.4 oz that PETLIBRO says stay chilled "for up to 3 days." The Cat Mate C500 ($47.99) and C200 ($29.99) sit on ice packs, and owners report anything from a few hours of cold to 2 or 3 days with pre-frozen food.

Cat Mate C200
For one or two timed wet meals, such as an early breakfast. $29.99 at Walmart, sold by Ani Mate, Cat Mate's US entity (10/09/2026); Amazon showed it unavailable. Two compartments that each hold "up to 400g (14 oz.) of wet or dry food," each on its own 48-hour dial, one AA battery Cat Mate says runs "up to 12 months," and one ice pack that "helps keep food cool and appetizing for longer," with no hours given.
What owners report about the ice, each a separate report:
- "The ice pack was still mostly frozen when we came home about 30 hours after setting it out." (Walmart, 08/26/2019)
- Ice packs "only stay frozen for a few hours" (Walmart, 10/25/2019).
- "Food dose not stay cold up to 48hrs." (Walmart, 02/09/2020)
What held it back: timer accuracy came up in 6 of the 48 Walmart reviews we read ("The timer is not very accurate," 01/09/2026), the lid failed to open in 3, and 42 of the 48 are older than 24 months. No manual was found. Not enough owner reviews read yet (48 read on Walmart). Closest match with a store link: none, since no wet food feeder in our database has one.
Cat Mate C500
For up to four timed meals a day plus one served at once. $47.99 at Walmart (Ani Mate) and on Amazon (10/09/2026); a version with stainless steel inserts is $76.99 on Amazon. Five compartments of "11.5 oz (330g)," an LCD timer in 10-minute steps, three AA batteries that "should normally last approximately 12 months (dependent on use)," and two ice packs.
The manual is the most specific of the three on cooling: "The C500 should always be used with its ice-packs unless the surrounding temperature is less than 5°C. (40°F.)" Freeze them "for at least 6 hours," and in very warm weather "you are advised not to leave wet food for long periods." No hours of cold are claimed. Owners, separately:
- "Ice packs just stay cold less than 24 hours." (Walmart, 10/12/2023)
- "keeps the food cold for about a day and a half," with the food frozen too (Walmart, 10/07/2022)
- "contents stay cold for 2-3 days," with half the tray and the food pre-frozen (Walmart, 09/29/2022)
- "I wouldn't leave wet food in there for any longer than 24 hours." (Amazon, 12/05/2025)
Owner Complaint Index: battery or power in 8% and noise in 5% of 65 reviews read on Walmart and Amazon; 51 of the 60 newest Walmart reviews are syndicated from closerpets.com. Warranty: 3 years if you register "within 14 days of purchase." Closest match with a store link: none.
PETLIBRO Polar
For wet food that has to wait more than a day, if you accept a thin owner record. $112.16 on Amazon for the plastic-bowl PLAF109, $169.99 for the stainless PLAF109SS (10/09/2026); PETLIBRO's own store listed the Polar at $169.99 on 10/14/2026. Three compartments of up to 7.4 oz, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only, schedules set in the PETLIBRO app.
PETLIBRO's Amazon listing describes "semiconductor refrigeration technology" that "keeps 3 meals chill for up to 3 days," "no ice packs needed (Performs optimally at 53°F-85°F room temperature)," and "Quickly Chilled Within 4 Hours." Where sources disagree:
- Food temperature: below 50°F in 4 hours from a 73°F room (zooplus listing); "30-50°F" (TechCrunch, 04/25/2024); one Amazon owner reports "around 55° F" (date not shown).
- Room range: 54 to 86°F in the manual (p.03), 53 to 85°F on Amazon.
- Power cuts: on its AA backups "the refrigeration function will stop, but the feeding schedule within 12 hours will proceed as usual" (manual p.17).
- Cleaning: the manual says to clean the bowl "with water and wipe it dry"; an Amazon listing calls the stainless tray "Dishwasher-Safe."
What owners report: Amazon ratings run from 3.0 over 197 to 3.3 over 10 across versions, and we could read 4 full reviews plus one long-term blog write-up. Amazon's summary for the plastic version says owners report the refrigeration "stops working after 6 months." One owner: "Wifi wonky. I went away for several days and the device never opened to feed my cats." (Amazon, 10/07/2026). Another, who ran two units for about a year, logged mis-rotation "about 1 in 100 feeds" and still called it "one of the best automated wet food solutions available (in my opinion)" (felinediabetes.com, 12/17/2025). Not enough owner reviews read yet (5 read on Amazon and felinediabetes.com). Closest match with a store link: none.
Sealed-lid bowls without cooling: SureFeed
If you need wet food that only one cat can reach, rather than food kept cold, the SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder ($169.99 on Amazon) and the Connect ($216.51 on Amazon, both 10/09/2026) open a lid only for a registered microchip or tag. Sure Petcare says the "Sealed bowl keeps food fresher and free of flies" and gives a "Bowl capacity 400 ml or two pouches of wet food." There is no timer and no cooling, and the manual says "Do not place the feeder in the fridge or place ice packs underneath or in the feeder." Both are compared in the microchip section of our automatic cat feeder roundup.
How to choose
Pick by how long the food has to wait. For meals within a day, Cat Mate's ice packs are what is on offer, and its own manual warns against long waits in warm weather. Only the Polar claims chilled storage over several days, and it cools only while plugged in.
Then setup. Both Cat Mate feeders run on AA batteries with no Wi-Fi and no app; the C200's dials count down from when you set them, while the C500 repeats daily meal times. The Polar needs an outlet, a 2.4 GHz network, and the app; one owner says the app "doesn't work locally" (Amazon, 07/03/2026). Its manual rules out rooms below 54°F or above 86°F.
What it really costs in the first year
None of the three has a complete first-year figure, because all were priced at Walmart or Amazon, where shipping depends on the order and we reached no checkout. Before shipping and sales tax, which varies by state: the C200 is $29.99 plus one AA battery a year, the C500 $47.99 plus three AA batteries a year (batteries not priced), and the Polar $112.16 with no scheduled consumables.
Spare ice packs are optional: $14.99 for two for the C500 on Amazon, $16.99 for two for the C200 at Walmart (10/09/2026). None of the three needs a subscription. PETLIBRO's paid plan is Petlibro Care, $47.99 a year for one pet or $103.99 for several; Petlibro says "No subscription is needed to use your Petlibro smart feeder or fountain" and that one subscription "works across all your Petlibro smart products," so it applies to the Polar but is optional (petlibro.com, 10/14/2026).
What owners complain about across the category
Only the C500 cleared 50 independent reviews; its index is above. Across the 118 reviews behind this page, battery or power and noise each came up 8 times, a lid that did not open or a jam 7 times, timer accuracy 6 times (all C200), and app or Wi-Fi trouble 5 times (all Polar). How long the ice lasts gets no count, because owners describe very different conditions. Cat Mate owners most often praised simple setup and easy cleaning.
Safety and recalls
The CPSC recall database returned 0 results for "petlibro," "cat mate," "pet mate," and "pet feeder" on 10/09/2026 and again on 10/14/2026 (saferproducts.gov recall API). How long wet food can safely wait is a question for your vet; we don't give a number, and the makers' limits are the ones quoted above. One undated Amazon snippet on the Polar says "the cats paw could easily get caught as the feeding plate spins," while PETLIBRO's listing names an "anti-pinch lid sensor(not RFID)."
Why this page has no top pick
We name a pick only for a feeder we can link to a store for, and for wet food we can't. The feeders we do link to are dry-food machines by their manuals: PetSafe's Simply Feed guide says "Do NOT use canned, wet or moist dog or cat food," and Whisker's Feeder-Robot manual says "Do not use canned, wet, or moist pet food." So this page stays without a pick until a wet food feeder gets a store link. For kibble, the picks are in our automatic cat feeder roundup.
FAQ
Do automatic cat feeders work with wet food?
Only wet food models: in our database, the PETLIBRO Polar, which cools on mains power, and the Cat Mate C500 and C200, which use ice packs. Hopper feeders don't; PetSafe's Smart Feed guide says "DO NOT use wet, canned or moist food." Dry food feeders are in our automatic cat feeder roundup.
Which automatic feeder keeps wet food cold?
The PETLIBRO Polar, the only one with active cooling in our database. The zooplus listing says below 50°F within 4 hours from a 73°F room; one Amazon owner reports "around 55° F," and no instrument test exists. Cooling stops on backup batteries (manual p.17).
Is the PETLIBRO wet food feeder RFID?
No. PETLIBRO's listing calls its sensor an "anti-pinch lid sensor(not RFID)," and the Polar has one shared bowl with no pet identification. For a lid that opens for one cat, see the SureFeed feeders in our automatic cat feeder roundup.
How long do Cat Mate ice packs keep food cold?
Cat Mate doesn't say. The C500 manual asks you to freeze the packs "for at least 6 hours" and use them unless the room is below 40°F. Owners range from "less than 24 hours" (Walmart, 10/12/2023) to "2-3 days" with the food pre-frozen (Walmart, 09/29/2022).
How we picked
What we checked: Amazon and Walmart listings for all three, the Polar manual (PLAF109-V0004), and the C500 manual (36502/0616) on 10/09/2026; 118 owner reviews and posts on Walmart, Amazon, and felinediabetes.com through 10/09/2026; and the CPSC recall database for both brands on 10/09/2026, rechecked through the saferproducts.gov recall API on 10/14/2026. PETLIBRO's and Cat Mate's sites and Chewy returned errors on 10/09/2026, and Reddit was unreachable. On 10/14/2026 petlibro.com opened and listed the Polar at $169.99; we have no Cat Mate list price.
Each feeder gets the five-point check from our automatic cat feeder hub (how we research). The three tied on it, so the order is the lower first-year cost. Nobody we found measured food temperature with an instrument in any of them.
