Which small-dog tracker to buy

We track 7 dog trackers. Our top pick is Fi Mini, scored 9/10. 1 of 7 with a listed plan status works with no subscription. Prices run $34.95 to $229, checked 10/09/2026.

Fi Mini is the small-dog GPS tracker we'd point you to: at 0.56 oz it ties for the lightest GPS tracker in our database, it clips onto the collar your dog already wears, and Fi's launch blog calls it "perfect for small dogs under 10 pounds." It costs $99 plus Fi's required $189/year plan, about $297 in the first year before tax (10/09/2026). Fi lists no minimum dog weight (Fi Mini Overview, edited 09/15/2026). If cost matters more than ounces, the FitBark GPS weighs the same, starts at 5 lb, and costs about $131 in year one on its 1-year plan.

Our top pick
Fi Mini$99 plus $189/year, about $297 in year one, 0.56 oz on the collar your dog already wears. Buy it if your dog is under 10 lb and you accept Fi's plan with no monthly option.
For a full collar on a dog under 10 lb
Fi Series 3+In XS, $129 plus $189/year, about $318, 1.66 oz, with the longer battery claim.

Fi Mini (our top pick)

For dogs under 10 lb. The number that put it first: 0.56 oz, tied with FitBark for the lightest GPS tracker we track, at 1.65 x 1.18 x 0.49 in (42 x 30 x 12.5 mm). It runs on Verizon's LTE-M network, is rated IP68, and Fi's help center claims "up to 2 months" of battery; the launch blog (08/25/2025) said "3-week battery life," and the two figures have not been reconciled. What held it back: no minimum dog weight from Fi, no month-to-month plan, and charging by USB-C with the tracker taken out of its strap. Fi Mini is sold for cats too, though Fi's FAQ says it doesn't track activity for cats. One App Store owner called it "Perfect for our little Chihuahua" (09/27/2026); another wrote that "the tracking is not as accurate as they make it seem" (09/13/2026). Those are 2 of 50 Fi reviews we read; the rest don't name a model.

FitBark GPS 2nd Gen

For the lowest vendor-stated minimum, 5 lb, at the same 0.56 oz (16 g) as the Fi Mini, in a 1.86 x 1.18 x 0.61 in (47 x 30 x 15 mm) case held on with zip ties. $34.95 on sale against $69.95 list, and about $131 in year one on the $96 1-year plan (about $155 if you buy the 6-month plan twice). FitBark's battery table depends on Wi-Fi at home: "up to 4 weeks" with Wi-Fi and daily walks, "up to 10 days" in lost-pet mode, "up to 6 hours" in live tracking. FitBark says the tracker is not for you if "You don't have Wi-Fi in your house." Not enough owner reviews read yet (24 read on Trustpilot and the App Store); one owner wrote that "it only last half a day from full charge" (Trustpilot, 09/20/2026). Closest match we link to: Fi Mini.

Tractive DOG 6

For a small dog over 8.8 lb, and the only tracker on this page with an independent battery test. Tractive's product selector says "For dogs above 9 lbs" while its specs say 8.8 lb; the metric version of the page reads "above 4 kg" in every place (10/14/2026), so 8.8 lb is the spec and 9 lbs the selector's rounding. The US lineup has no smaller dog model on 10/09/2026. It weighs 1.4 oz, measures 2.8 x 1.1 x 0.7 in, and fits collars up to 1.1 in wide. $47.40 on sale against $79 list, plus Basic 1-Year at $108, about $155 in year one. Tractive claims "Up to 14 days" of battery with Power Saving Zones and "Up to 6 days" without; Treeline Review measured 25 days with two off-leash dogs, weight not stated (07/11/2026). Closest match we link to: Fi Mini. See Tractive vs Fi and our Tractive review.

Pawfit 3

For small dogs from 7.7 lb whose owners want voice recall through the tracker. It weighs 0.96 oz and measures 1.89 x 1.3 x 0.55 in; Pawfit doesn't list a collar width or neck size. $59.99, and plans from $12.99/month or $95.88 for a Basic year, about $216 in year one by the monthly price. Pawfit claims "Up to 8-day battery life"; its own Trustpilot reply to an owner says the tracker "averages 4–5 days between charges." The US site also sells a Pawfit Lite for dogs at $49, which is not in our database. Not enough owner reviews read yet (48 read on Trustpilot and the App Store, mostly UK, brand-wide); one owner wrote that "the tracking is off by a bit and the app lags" (Trustpilot, 10/05/2026). Closest match we link to: Fi Mini.

Invoxia Biotracker

For owners who want resting heart and breathing readings shown in the app. It weighs 1.3 oz (37 g), measures 2.3 x 1.2 x 0.9 in, and fits collars up to 1 in wide; Invoxia doesn't publish a minimum dog weight (product page and spec sheet, 10/14/2026). $119, plus Max GPS at $129.95/year for live location, about $249 in year one; the free tier sends walk positions over Bluetooth only. Invoxia claims up to 15 days of battery. Not enough owner reviews read yet (8 read on the App Store and Trustpilot); one owner wrote, "Customer support non existent" (Trustpilot, 08/04/2026). Closest match we link to: Fi Mini.

Weight limits and device weight

Only three of the five vendors print a minimum dog weight: FitBark at 5 lb, Pawfit at 7.7 lb, and Tractive at 8.8 lb. Fi and Invoxia print none. Device weights run from 0.56 oz (Fi Mini, FitBark GPS) to 1.4 oz (Tractive DOG 6). Collar width matters as much on a toy breed: Invoxia stops at 1 in, Tractive at 1.1 in, and Fi Mini's strap at 1.25 in by its help center but 1 in by its launch blog.

Two Fi options are worth comparing for a dog under 10 lb. Fi's own Series 3+ comes in an XS band for necks of 9.5 to 11 in and dogs "under 10 lb," 3/4 in wide, and lists 1.66 oz, about three times the Mini; it has a charging base and a longer battery claim, "Up to 3 months" at low activity. PitPat lists 1.06 oz and "from 12 weeks old" but no minimum weight. Trackers built for big dogs are out of the question here: Tractive's DOG 6 XL starts at 44.1 lb, and the Garmin Alpha T 20 collar weighs 8.8 oz.

First-year cost

Before sales tax, which varies by state: about $131 for the FitBark GPS, $155 for the Tractive DOG 6, $216 for the Pawfit 3, $249 for the Invoxia, and $297 for the Fi Mini, against a category median of $211. The Fi Mini's $99 price sits under Fi's $100 free-shipping line, so Fi's rule adds $9 shipping (shipping FAQ, edited 09/09/2026; checkout not reached). Fi's store catalog (api.tryfi.com, 10/14/2026) shows lower first-term prices for new buyers, $59 / $99 / $189 for the 6-month, 1-year, and 2-year plans against renewal prices of $99 / $189 / $339, plus a $20 activation fee on prepaid plans, but we could not confirm them at checkout, so our first-year totals use the renewal prices from Fi's billing article (edited 09/15/2026). The plan is the larger part every time; over two years, Fi's 2-year plan is $339, Tractive's Basic 2-Year is $144, FitBark's 2-year plan is $144, and Pawfit's Basic 2-year plan is $119.76. Every tracker in this list needs a plan for live GPS. The two that don't, PitPat and Garmin, are covered in the best GPS dog collars.

FAQ

What is the smallest GPS pet tracker?

Two tie in our database on weight: the Fi Mini and the FitBark GPS both list 0.56 oz. By size, the Fi Mini is smaller at 1.65 x 1.18 x 0.49 in (42 x 30 x 12.5 mm) against FitBark's 1.86 x 1.18 x 0.61 in (47 x 30 x 15 mm). FitBark publishes a 5 lb minimum dog weight; Fi publishes none. Both need a plan for GPS: $189/year for Fi, $96/year for FitBark (10/09/2026). The rest of the category is in the best GPS dog collars.

Is AirTag or GPS better for small dogs?

AirTag is not in our tracker database, so we don't score it here. Each tracker on this page has its own cellular radio and sends live location and escape alerts through its app, which is why each one needs a plan: $95.88 to $189 a year on 10/09/2026.

Can a puppy wear a GPS tracker?

PitPat is the only vendor here that states an age: "from 12 weeks old." Fi, Tractive, FitBark, Pawfit, and Invoxia list no minimum age. Fi offers to swap a Series 3+ collar for free "when your puppy is full grown," which helps if the neck outgrows the XS band. The vendor's minimum weight still applies: 5 lb for FitBark, 7.7 lb for Pawfit, 8.8 lb for Tractive. More options in the best GPS dog collars.

How we picked

What we checked: product, plan, sizing, and help pages for every current dog tracker in our database on 10/09/2026; device weight, size, collar width, and minimum dog weight exactly as each vendor lists them; 332 owner reviews across the GPS category on the App Store, Trustpilot, and Gun Dog Supply through 10/09/2026; and the CPSC recall API at saferproducts.gov for each brand on 10/14/2026, with no recall found.

The axis here is two vendor numbers: the lightest dog the tracker is meant for and what the tracker weighs. Where a vendor doesn't publish one, the table says so; we don't fill gaps with our own estimate or a rule of thumb about body weight. Trackers we can link to come first, then the rest by our five-point check (how we research), ties to the lower first-year cost. The full category, including large-dog trackers, is in the best GPS dog collars.
