Catit Fountains Review: Flower and PIXI Filters, Yearly Cost, Pumps, Warranty, and the PIXI Smart App
4 water fountains, $32.99 to $139.99 (listed for 3 of 4). Catit fountains are cheap to buy, and the filters are where the money goes. The Flower Fountain is $32.99 at PetSmart (10/09/2026), and its Triple Action filter #43745 costs $12.99 for a 2-pack, about $79 a year at Catit's "every 30 days." The PIXI Drinking Fountain is $48.99, but its filter #43721 is $8.99 for a 3-pack, about $36 a year, so by the end of year one the PIXI has cost less. Catit's own pages disagree on the filter interval (30 days, 3–4 weeks, or 3 weeks), and every Catit fountain manual prints a 2-year warranty. We found no Catit affiliate program, so this page has no store links for Catit; the fountains we link to instead are under Best for / Skip if.

Verdict
What we checked: catit.com product, filter, and help pages, four Catit fountain manuals (Flower VER. 05/22, PIXI VER. 09/21, PIXI Smart VER. 07/25, Stainless Steel VER. 05/18), PetSmart and That Pet Place prices, the Catit app listings, and the CPSC recall listing, all on 10/09/2026. We read 0 owner reviews: PetSmart showed counts only, and Chewy, Amazon, and Reddit did not load for our tools.
The Flower and PIXI are plain plug-in fountains with a long warranty and filters sold at PetSmart, and the PIXI costs less over a year on filter cost alone. The PIXI Smart adds Wi-Fi, app reminders, and a UV-C clarifier for $139.99, through an app rated 2.1 stars on the App Store.
Catit fountain filters: item numbers, prices, and how often to change them
Catit makes two filter families, and they don't swap: the Flower uses the Triple Action filter, the PIXI and PIXI Smart use the PIXI filter. Prices are PetSmart's on 10/09/2026; catit.com shows none.
| Filter | Fits (per Catit) | Item numbers | Price, 10/09/2026 | catit.com interval | Manual interval | Cost per year |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Triple Action Fountain Filter (cartridge) | Flower Fountain; Stainless Steel #50023 (its manual, p.12) | #43745 2-pack, #43746 5-pack, #43748 12-pack | $12.99 regular, $8.99 sale, 2-pack | "Replace every 30 days for optimal results" | "every 3-4 weeks" and "Replace monthly" (Flower, PDF p.8 and p.10); "every 3 weeks" (Stainless Steel, PDF p.10) | about $79 at 30 days; about $55 at the sale price; about $113 at 3 weeks |
| Triple Action Filter Pad (frameless) | "every full-size Catit Flower Fountain" | #43738 2-pack, #43739 6-pack | not listed by a US store we opened | "Replace every 30 days (or when visibly saturated)" | not in the Flower manual VER. 05/22 | not calculated |
| PIXI Fountain Filter | PIXI and PIXI Smart | #43721 3-pack, #43722 6-pack, #43723 12-pack | $8.99, 3-pack | "every 30 days for best results" | "every 3-4 weeks" (PIXI, PDF p.10; PIXI Smart, PDF p.9) | about $36 at 30 days |
Yearly figures use the regular price and one filter per interval; the larger packs had no US price we could open.
Each manual adds a condition: change the filter "when there are visible signs that the filter is saturated with foreign matter (debris, food, hair, etc.) or if the water flow is impeded." PetSmart's filter page says "every month, or sooner, if the filter is visibly saturated." So 30 days is Catit's longest interval, not its typical one, and at the Stainless Steel manual's 3 weeks the Triple Action filter reaches about $113 a year.
The frameless pads are Catit's newer option for the Flower, with "75% less plastic" per Catit; we found no US price for them; Catit's US shop, the one store that lists them, did not load for us on 10/09/2026 or 10/14/2026. PetSmart's PIXI filter page, titled "3 Pack," offers two items on 10/14/2026: the 3-pack in our math at $8.99 (item 5307822) and, at $14.99, item 5307821, whose barcode matches Catit's #43722 6-pack; its "Includes" line says "6 Triple Action Filters" (petsmart.com, 10/14/2026). Catit describes both filters as mesh, active carbon, and ion exchange resin.
Pumps and pump cleaning
Catit sells pumps as spare parts and prints no replacement interval, so pumps are not in our yearly cost. Cleaning intervals differ:
- Flower Fountain: pump with cord #50044, USB adapter #50043. Catit's cleaning guide: "The pump should be removed from the fountain and disassembled for cleaning on a biweekly basis."
- PIXI: pump #44833, USB adapter #44834. No fixed interval; the manual (PDF p.10) says "Should pump appear dirty, open pump and remove impeller cap and impeller."
- PIXI Smart: pump #44835, adapter #44834; the app sends a pump maintenance reminder every 60 days (manual PDF p.7). The UV-C emitter "is not available as a spare part."
- Stainless Steel (Fresh & Clear): the same pump #50044 and adapter #50043 as the Flower (manual PDF p.12).
We found no US store price for any of these pumps; Catit's US shop did not load for us on 10/09/2026 or 10/14/2026.
The lineup
Four Catit fountains are in our database. Where Catit gives two figures, both are shown.
| Model | Item # | Capacity | Filter life (Catit) | Power | App | Warranty | Price, 10/09/2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Catit Flower Fountain | #43742 | 100 fl oz (3 L) | 30 days (catit.com); 3–4 weeks (manual) | 120V plug-in | No | 2 years | $32.99, PetSmart |
| Catit PIXI Drinking Fountain | #43715–#43718 by color | 84.54 fl oz (2.5 L) and 67.5 fl oz (2 L), both on catit.com | 30 days (catit.com); 3–4 weeks (manual) | USB, 5V 1A | No | 2 years | $48.99, PetSmart |
| Catit PIXI Smart Drinking Fountain | #43751 | 67.5 fl oz (2 L) | 30-day app reminder; 3–4 weeks (manual) | USB, 5V 1A | Yes, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi | 2 years | $139.99, That Pet Place |
| Catit Stainless Steel Drinking Fountain (sold as Fresh & Clear) | #50023 | not listed by Catit | 3 weeks (manual); 30 days (filter page) | USB adapter | No | 2 years | no US price found |
First-year cost, before shipping and sales tax (varies by state): the Flower is $32.99 plus about $79 in filters; the PIXI is $48.99 plus about $36; the PIXI Smart is $139.99 plus about $36. PetSmart's free standard shipping over $49 applies to signed-in Treats Rewards members (petsmart.com, 10/14/2026); That Pet Place's shipping page did not open for us. None needs a subscription.
Catit.com has no cart and Catit's US shop returned an error on 10/09/2026, so every price is a retailer's. PetSmart no longer lists the PIXI Smart. The Stainless Steel #50023 was missing from the catit.com fountain catalog on 10/09/2026 but had a product page there on 10/14/2026, with no price, no availability note, and no "where to buy" link; Catit keeps its manual online, and no US store page with a price opened for us. Catit also sells an LED Flower (#43747), a Stainless Steel Flower (#43725), and a 1.5 L Mini Flower with different filters, which we haven't covered. Catit's PIXI Smart Feeder is compared with other feeders in our automatic cat feeder roundup.
Warranty and returns
Every Catit fountain manual we opened prints the same 2-year term: "guaranteed for defective parts and workmanship for a period of 2 years from the date of purchase. This guarantee is valid with proof of purchase only." It excludes "unreasonable use, negligence, improper installation, tampering, abuse or commercial use" and "wear and tear." PetSafe and PETKIT give one year on the fountains we link to below.
For service the manuals say to "contact your local pet product dealer or write to the Catit® representative in your country"; in the US that is Rolf C. Hagen (U.S.A.) Corp. in Mansfield, Massachusetts. Amazon's product information for the Flower (43742W) says "1 year warranty" (amazon.com, 10/14/2026); the manual says 2 years, and we go by the manual.
Returns follow the store, since Catit doesn't sell from catit.com. PetSmart gives 60 days with a receipt, and "a valid receipt" is required to return "filters or pumps" worth $10 or more (petsmart.com, 10/14/2026). Catit's US shop did not load for us on 10/09/2026 or 10/14/2026, so we cannot quote its return terms.
PIXI Smart app and privacy
The PIXI Smart is the only Catit fountain here with an app, and that app rates 2.1 of 5 over 94 App Store ratings and 2.5 over 459 on Google Play (10/09/2026). The three App Store reviews visible were about Catit feeders, not the fountain. It's the same "Catit®" app from Rolf C Hagen Inc. that runs the PIXI Smart feeder, and catit.com calls it "free, no in-app purchases." The App Store privacy label, written by the developer, says: "The developer does not collect any data from this app."
The manual (VER. 07/25) lists what the app controls: pump on and off, Normal or Energy-saving mode (5 minutes on, 15 minutes paused), low-water alerts every four hours, a filter reminder every 30 days, a pump reminder every 60 days, and a manual UV-C start (1 hour on, 7 hours paused). Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz only. Neither the manual nor the catit.com product page says whether the fountain keeps running without the app (10/14/2026). The top and stainless steel cover are dishwasher-safe, "whereas the fountain body is not," and "steel edges may be sharp."
The plain PIXI has no app; its manual describes a water-level sensor that shuts the pump down when the reservoir runs low and restarts it after a refill. Smart feeders from Catit and other brands are compared in our best automatic cat feeders.
Recalls and safety notices
The CPSC recall listing had 0 results for "Catit" and 0 for pet or cat water fountains on 10/09/2026, and the saferproducts.gov recall API again returned 0 for "Catit" and "pet fountain" on 10/14/2026. The only recall under Catit's US distributor, Rolf C. Hagen (USA), is 89-078 from 1989, for aquarium power heads. A saferproducts.gov site search found no Catit fountain report; that database can't be queried directly.
Claimed vs independent
Catit publishes no noise figure; for the PIXI it says the fountain "hardly makes a sound." The only decibel numbers we found come from a listicle with no meter, distance, or background level, so noise, filter life, and pump life are not independently measured for any Catit fountain in our database.
What owners say
Not enough owner reviews read yet (0 read). PetSmart shows 110 reviews on the Flower, 199 on the Flower filter 2-pack, 566 on the PIXI, and 84 on the PIXI filter, but the text didn't render for our tools on 10/09/2026. That Pet Place lists 0 reviews for the PIXI Smart, and Chewy, Amazon, and Reddit blocked our tools. There are no owner quotes on this page until we can read them.
Best for / Skip if
a plug-in fountain under $50 with a 2-year warranty and filters sold at PetSmart. The PIXI if you'd rather pay more up front and about $36 a year in filters instead of the Flower's $79; the PIXI Smart only if you want app reminders and UV-C despite the app's ratings.
you want a cordless fountain, a published noise figure, or an all-steel body, or your router runs only on 5 GHz (PIXI Smart).

Questions people ask
How often should you change a Catit fountain filter?
Every 30 days at the longest. That's catit.com's figure on both filter pages; the Flower, PIXI, and PIXI Smart manuals say "every 3-4 weeks" or sooner if the filter looks saturated or the flow slows, and the older Stainless Steel manual says every 3 weeks. Other brands' intervals are compared in our best cat water fountains guide.
Are Catit Flower and PIXI filters the same?
No. The Flower takes the Triple Action filter (#43745, #43746, #43748) or the frameless pads (#43738, #43739). The PIXI and PIXI Smart take the PIXI filter (#43721, #43722, #43723). The Stainless Steel #50023 manual lists the Triple Action #43745 and #43746.
How much do Catit fountain filters cost per year?
About $79 for the Flower and about $36 for the PIXI or PIXI Smart, at PetSmart's regular prices on 10/09/2026 ($12.99 per 2-pack, $8.99 per 3-pack) and one filter every 30 days. At PetSmart's $8.99 sale price on the Flower 2-pack, the Flower drops to about $55; the manuals' shorter intervals cost more.
How often do you clean the Catit Flower Fountain pump?
Every two weeks: Catit's cleaning guide says to disassemble the pump "for cleaning on a biweekly basis." The PIXI manual sets no interval, and the PIXI Smart app reminds you every 60 days. Replacement pumps are #50044 (Flower) and #44833 (PIXI).
Does the Catit PIXI Smart Fountain need a subscription?
No. Catit says the app is "free, no in-app purchases," and the manual lists no paid tier; it needs 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. The recurring cost is filters: about $36 a year at PetSmart's $8.99 per 3-pack, the same filter as the plain PIXI.
