PETKIT PuraMax 2 Review: Where It's Still Sold, First-Year Cost and What Owners Report
No longer sold by PETKIT.

The PETKIT PuraMax 2 is a rotating self-cleaning litter box that PETKIT no longer sells on its own US site, but its seller PETKIT-US still lists it on Amazon at $299.99 against a $389.99 list price (10/09/2026), with 4.2 stars over 2,620 ratings. At that price it undercuts its successor, the PETKIT Purobot Max 3, by $100 for the same 7 L bin, the same N50 odor cartridge, and the same footprint. The manual sets the limits: cats under 3.3 lb (1.5 kg) or six months are "not recommended," and litter particles must be no larger than about 0.5 by 0.1 in (1.2 cm by 3 mm). We don't link to Amazon; the closest match with a store link is the Purobot Max 3 at $399.99 on sale at petkit.com.
a one- or two-cat home with cats between 3.3 and 22 lb that wants a rotating box under $300 and will buy a discontinued model on Amazon, where the listing reads "Warranty Description: 2 Year Warranty" (10/14/2026). The price decides it; the mechanism and consumables are the Max 3's.
your cat is under 3.3 lb or six months (manual, p. 27), you want a published entry size or noise number, or you need the box to run fully from the panel. Closest match with a store link: the PETKIT Purobot Max 3, $399.99 on sale at petkit.com on 10/09/2026, with the same bin and cartridges and a published entry size. Is the PuraMax 2 still sold?
Not by PETKIT directly. On 10/09/2026 the petkit.com URL /products/petkit-puramax-2 redirected to the Purobot Max 3 page, and a site search for "puramax" returned 31 results, all accessories.
Where it is sold is Amazon. Listing B0DFYF2D7D, seller PETKIT-US, showed "$299.99 with 23 percent savings" and "List Price: $389.99" on 10/09/2026; the model first appeared there on 09/03/2024. It's the basic bundle and states "This version is not compatible with K3 Smart Spray," the deodorizing spray the manual's Premium package adds (T4-2 V1.3, p. 3). Chewy and Best Buy pages were blocked when we tried to read them on 10/09/2026 and 10/14/2026.
Claimed vs measured
PETKIT's one capacity claim is "up to 15 days" for a single cat from the 7 L waste bin, printed in the Amazon FAQ PDF as "Based on PETKIT's lab results." No independent reading tests it, and PETKIT publishes no noise figure for this model in the manual, the Amazon listing, or petkit.com; the "35 dB" that circulates traces to retailer listings, not to PETKIT (re-checked 10/14/2026; petkit.com no longer carries a PuraMax 2 page).
| Figure | PETKIT's number | Independent reading |
|---|---|---|
| Waste bin, one cat | up to 15 days (7 L), "PETKIT's lab results" (Amazon FAQ PDF) | not measured; an Amazon owner with three cats reports "about a weekly clean out" (06/06/2026) |
| Cycle noise | not stated by PETKIT | not independently measured |
| Cat weight range | 3.3 to 22 lb (1.5 to 10 kg), Amazon FAQ PDF | not applicable |
The one written review with a method is cats.com (Katelynn Sobus, 12/10/2025): 3.8 of 5, with Ease of Cleaning 3, Odor Control 4, Appearance 5, Construction 3.5, and Price 3.5, after "weeks" with seven senior cats in the home and the unit on carpet with auto-scoop turned off because the weight sensor read wrong there. She took no noise or bin measurements, and two YouTube reviews (Petopedia, 03/21/2026; Petsacular, 03/23/2025) publish no numbers.

Category median first-year cost in our database: $622.50.
Amazon price $299.99 on 10/09/2026, list $389.99. Amazon's policy page gives free shipping on eligible orders over $35; we did not reach checkout. There is no subscription: the box has no camera, so PETKIT's CARE+ plan doesn't apply. The page's "Get $50 off instantly" is a card-signup promotion, not installment financing.
The consumable with a vendor interval is the N50 2.0 odor cartridge, $19.99 for three on petkit.com (10/09/2026), replaced "About one month" per the manual (p. 19), about $81 a year. Bags: 20 come in the box per the Amazon FAQ PDF, and the 15-day bin figure implies about 24 changes a year, and the $29.99 PETKIT pack is "1 Pack (5 Rolls)" of "20 pieces in one roll," 100 bags (petkit.com, 10/14/2026), so a year of bags is about $7.
First year, before sales tax (which varies by state): about $388, from $299.99 plus about $81 of cartridges and about $7 of bags. The litter pad ($36.99) is replaced "when it sticks to the cat litter severely or is broken" (manual, p. 19), not on a schedule.
Where to buy: Amazon, Chewy, and petkit.com
Prices checked 10/09/2026Prices as printed on the store page on the date shown, before sales tax; stock and bundles differ by store.
Amazon is the only storefront we could read: $299.99, seller PETKIT-US, 10/09/2026, under Amazon's return policy with the PETKIT warranty on top; Chewy's page returned errors. We don't link to Amazon. The closest match we link to is the PETKIT Purobot Max 3 at $399.99 sale / $499.99 list on petkit.com (10/09/2026), free shipping over $39 to the contiguous US, the same 2-year warranty, and a 30-day return window with return shipping on you unless PETKIT verifies a defect.
Warranty and returns
The PuraMax 2 is on PETKIT's 2-year list. The warranty page (petkit.com, 10/09/2026) sets a 1-year baseline and names "PuraMax 2" among the models whose warranty "has been upgraded to 2 years" for purchases on or after 01/01/2025 "through the PETKIT official website or authorized distributors in the United States"; the Amazon title itself reads "with 2-Year Coverage," and its product information says "Warranty Description: 2 Year Warranty" (10/14/2026), though neither page says whether the seller PETKIT-US counts as an authorized distributor. Claims go to support@petkit.com with proof of purchase, serial number, and photos or logs; remedies are at PETKIT's discretion.
Returns on an Amazon order are Amazon's. PETKIT's own 30-day policy, with return shipping on the customer and a cleaning fee up to $50, applies only to petkit.com orders, and one owner there (05/09/2025) hit a wall: "I would take advantage of the money back guarantee but because it came with accessories that have been used it's null."
Sensors, cat size, and safety stops
The manual's Safety Guide (p. 27) states: "Cats younger than six months are not recommended to use this product. Cats weighing less than 1.5 kg are not recommended to use this product." PETKIT's Amazon FAQ PDF gives the range as "a minimum weight of 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs) and a maximum weight of 10 kg (22 lbs)" and, in its entry for a box that doesn't clean, asks owners to confirm the cat "is over 3.5 lbs," a different threshold on the same document. Kitten Mode in the app disables automatic and scheduled cleaning (p. 17).
How the stops work, in PETKIT's words: "There are weight sensors at the bottom of the device" (p. 27); with Continuous Rotation off, "the device will stop working if it detects a cat approaching" (p. 17); and if "the cat enters while the device is in operation (the device will automatically pause and alert)" (p. 10). The Amazon bullets add "infrared and weight sensors"; the "11 sensors" count online comes from cats.com and a retailer, not PETKIT.
Size per the manual (p. 26): 24.41 by 21.18 by 21.73 in (620 by 538 by 552 mm), 22 lb. PETKIT doesn't print the stock drum volume; its "PuraMax 2 Cylinder Max" upgrade cylinder is sold as "76L Capacity." The entry opening isn't stated. One petkit.com owner (06/05/2025): "Opening is a little too small for my larger cat. Empties effectively." Another on Amazon (09/22/2026): "I have 9, 11, and 12 pound cats - they all fit comfortably in here and seem to prefer it." PETKIT's US site no longer has a PuraMax 2 page to check the opening against (10/14/2026).
Waste bin, bags, litter, and odor control
The bin is 7 L, rated at up to 15 days for one cat; the three-cat owner above empties weekly. The mechanism complaint that repeats is clumps missing the sieve: "the clumps get behind the grate and the don't get cleaned up and you have to scoop them to the front of the grate" (Amazon, 06/06/2026).
Litter has a hard size limit (manual, p. 7): "Do not use large particles of cat litter larger than 1.2cm in length and 3mm in diameter." Two sifters ship with it, the standard one for tofu and mixed litter and the honeycomb fine sifter for mineral litter (p. 5); the Amazon FAQ PDF lists "Clay litter, tofu litter, and mixed litter," and cats.com notes crystal litter is out.
Odor control is the N50 2.0 cartridge beside the bin. Amazon's aspect tally shows "Odor control (172)" as mixed: some owners say it "lasts 30 days as advertised," others that "it doesn't work well for odor control" (Amazon review summary, 10/09/2026).
App and privacy
The box runs without the app, but owners say not well. The OLED panel offers Clean Now, Deodorize (needs the K3 spray), Level Cat Litter, Reset, Configure Network, and Maintenance Mode (manual, pp. 8–9). An Amazon owner (03/15/2026): "without an active connection to manage the litter box using their app we found that almost all of the functions were limited or missing." Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz per the PETKIT app listing.
The PETKIT app rates 4.6 over about 21,000 App Store ratings and 3.8 over 5,580 on Google Play (10/09/2026). The App Store card lists only "Data Not Linked to You": Identifiers, Usage Data, Diagnostics, Coarse Location. Google Play says the app "may share these data types with third parties: Photos and videos," "No data collected," and data "is encrypted in transit."
Recalls and safety notices
No recall found as of 10/14/2026. The saferproducts.gov recall API returned 0 results for "petkit" and for "litter box" on 10/09/2026 and again on 10/14/2026, and the cpsc.gov recall list had no PETKIT entry on 10/09/2026.

Quotes are word for word from the linked pages, and we pick praise and complaints alike. Reviews on the brand's own site and reviews written for a free product are not counted. Store ratings change over time; the date shows when we checked.
Not enough owner reviews read yet (46 read on Amazon and petkit.com). Amazon shows 4.2 stars over 2,620 global ratings on 10/09/2026, but only the eight "Top reviews from the United States" (03/2026 to 09/2026) were readable without a sign-in. The other 38 are the legacy PuraMax 2 reviews in the petkit.com widget (05/08/2025 to 07/04/2026), a vendor-hosted source that doesn't count toward our Owner Complaint Index. Chewy, Best Buy, and Reddit were blocked.
Themes across the 46: odor (15), app and Wi-Fi (10), noise (8, every explicit mention positive), motor or mechanical (5), sensors (4), customer support (3), cat won't use it (3). On Amazon's aspect tally, Durability draws 54 mentions against 192 for Functionality.
Complaints, verbatim: "Litter box did not work at all, multiple chats with customer service without any help. Sent photos and videos as requested" (petkit.com, 04/21/2026); "cats won't use it at all" (petkit.com, 05/09/2025). Praise centers on the price against the Litter-Robot 4, fit for 9 to 12 lb cats, and quiet operation.
Pros and cons
Pros:
- $299.99 on Amazon on 10/09/2026, $100 under the Purobot Max 3 sale price for the same 7 L bin and N50 cartridge.
- On PETKIT's 2-year warranty list for US purchases from 01/01/2025, and the Amazon title and product information both print two years.
- No subscription of any kind: no camera, so CARE+ doesn't apply.
- Works with clay, tofu, and mixed clumping litter up to 1.2 cm by 3 mm (manual, p. 7); every noise mention in the 46 reviews is positive.
Cons:
- Off petkit.com; Amazon is the only readable storefront, and we can't link to it.
- Odor control is mixed across Amazon's 172 odor mentions and depends on a $19.99-per-three cartridge about every month.
- Clumps "behind the grate" need hand scooping (Amazon, 06/06/2026).
- Without the app, owners describe the panel as limited (Amazon, 03/15/2026); no noise figure or entry size from PETKIT.
What changed in the Purobot Max 3
The Purobot Max 3 (published on petkit.com 07/17/2026) is the PuraMax 2's replacement and, on paper, mostly the same box: 24.41 by 21.18 by 21.73 in, 22 lb, a 7 L bin rated at 15 days for one cat, the same T3-T-5 trash bags, and the N50 2.0 cartridge on a 30-day interval (Max 3 manual T4-3 V1.1, p. 19).
What's new is the front and the price. The Max 3 page lists an entry of 10.51 by 10.74 in at 8.03 in off the floor, a figure the PuraMax 2 never published, and describes "12 sensors" plus an "intentionally incomplete" cylinder gear that leaves "a permanent opening, no matter what." PETKIT says the Max 3's top panel handles "Instant Clean, Odor Control, Litter Leveling, Maintenance Mode, Wi-Fi Setup, and more" without the app. It costs $399.99 sale / $499.99 list, and its page carries two noise claims, 35 dB in the description and 45 dB in the FAQ. The full lineup is in our PETKIT review.
Verdict
What we checked: the T4-2 V1.3 manual (02/02/2026, 29 pages), the Amazon listing and PETKIT's Amazon FAQ PDF, and petkit.com accessory, warranty, return, and shipping pages on 10/09/2026; 46 owner reviews on Amazon and petkit.com through 10/09/2026; the cats.com review and two video reviews; the CPSC recall database on 10/09/2026; the Amazon listing's warranty line and the CPSC database again on 10/14/2026.
FAQ
Is the PETKIT PuraMax 2 worth it?
It depends on the price gap. At $299.99 on Amazon (10/09/2026) it's the Purobot Max 3's bin and cartridges for $100 less, with a 2-year warranty line on the listing, though PETKIT's policy covers "authorized distributors" and doesn't say whether the Amazon seller is one. Budget about $81 a year for N50 cartridges and about $7 for bags, about $388 for the first year against about $488 for the Max 3. We don't link to Amazon; the closest model we link to is the Max 3, and our PETKIT review compares all four current models.
What litter can I use with the PETKIT PuraMax 2?
Clumping clay, tofu, or mixed litter with particles no larger than 1.2 cm by 3 mm (manual, p. 7). Use the honeycomb fine sifter for mineral litter and the standard sifter for tofu and mixed (p. 5). Crystal litter isn't compatible, per cats.com.
Is the PETKIT PuraMax 2 safe?
PETKIT's manual describes "weight sensors at the bottom of the device" (p. 27) and says the box pauses and alerts when a cat enters mid-cycle (p. 10). It is "not recommended" for cats under 3.3 lb (1.5 kg) or six months. The CPSC listed no PETKIT recall on 10/14/2026.
Where can I buy the PETKIT PuraMax 2?
On Amazon from the seller PETKIT-US at $299.99 against a $389.99 list price on 10/09/2026. petkit.com no longer lists it; the URL redirects to the Purobot Max 3. Chewy and Best Buy pages were blocked when we checked.
Does the PuraMax 2 work without Wi-Fi?
Partly. The OLED panel runs Clean Now, Level Cat Litter, Reset, and Maintenance Mode (manual, pp. 8–9), but an Amazon owner (03/15/2026) found "almost all of the functions were limited or missing" without the app, and the app needs 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
