Petlibro Dockstream Review: Original, Cordless, and Dockstream 2 Compared on Price, Filters, Battery, and Warranty

"Dockstream" is three different fountains. The Dockstream Cordless (battery-operated, motion-activated, no app) was $61.99 on Amazon on 10/09/2026 against a $69.99 list price; the Dockstream 2 (3 L tank, no pump in the water, built-in scale, app) was $79.99 on Amazon as a plug-in and $71.99 on sale at PetSmart as a cordless model ($89.99 regular). The original app-connected Dockstream had no seller offer we could find. All three take the same filter, $18.39 for eight, which comes to about $60 a year at Petlibro's "every two weeks." At Petlibro's own prices on 10/14/2026 ($69.99 for the Cordless, $79.99 for the Dockstream 2 Plug-In) with its $9.99 shipping and a year of filters, the first year is about $140 and $150. Battery life is a seller claim nobody has checked, and Petlibro's affiliate terms are unconfirmed, so the closest matches with a store link are in the Verdict.
a cordless fountain away from an outlet, if you'll change a filter every two weeks. The Dockstream 2 adds an app, intake tracking by weight, and a 101 fl oz (3 L) tank; the Cordless is cheaper and has no app at all.
you want a battery figure someone other than the seller has checked, a warranty you can read in the manual, or an all-steel bowl (the body is ABS plastic with a stainless steel tray).

Verdict
What we checked: Amazon listings for all three versions and their filters, the PetSmart Dockstream 2 Cordless page, Petlibro's refund policy, the Petlibro app on the App Store and Google Play, and the CPSC recall database, all on 10/09/2026. Petlibro's US site returned HTTP 429 all day, both manuals returned 403, and we read 0 owner reviews: Amazon review text needs a login, PetSmart's loads by script, and Chewy and Reddit blocked our tools. On 10/14/2026 petlibro.com opened: its Dockstream product pages, comparison table, and Petlibro Care page are quoted below with that date, and the saferproducts.gov recall API was checked again.
Closest match with a store link: for the Dockstream 2 Cordless at its $89.99 regular price, the PETKIT Eversweet Max 2, $99.99 at petkit.com (10/14/2026; $93.99 on Amazon from the PETKIT-US store on 10/09/2026). It is cordless too (5000mAh battery, wireless pump, 101 fl oz), its app holds 4.6 stars over 21,000 App Store ratings, filters run about $58 to $116 a year at PETKIT's "every 2-4 weeks," and the warranty is one year (PETKIT review). Against the Cordless at $69.99 on petlibro.com (10/14/2026; $61.99 on Amazon on 10/09/2026), no cordless fountain with a store link fits our price window; the nearest is the plug-in PetSafe Drinkwell Platinum, $55.99 at petsafe.com with free shipping, about $86 for the first year before tax.
Which Dockstream is which
Petlibro reuses the name across generations. Here is what the listings said on 10/09/2026.
| Version | Model no. | Power | Capacity | Pump | App and Wi-Fi | Price, 10/09/2026 | First on Amazon |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

| Dockstream 2 Smart Fountain, Cordless | PLWF116 | Battery plus AC adapter | 101 fl oz (3 L) | "pump-free design" | Petlibro app | $71.99 PetSmart sale, $89.99 regular (White) | 08/21/2025 |
The original appears discontinued: petlibro.com's store search lists the Dockstream 2, RFID, and Cordless but no original Smart Fountain (10/14/2026), Amazon showed "Only 1 left in stock" (10/14/2026), and PetSmart had delisted it. The Cordless's no-app status is Petlibro's own: its comparison table lists "APP Support: No" for the PLWF115 (petlibro.com, 10/14/2026). The Cordless runs in an induction mode on battery, "42-second flow only when senses your pet within 19.7inch/50cm," and flows continuously when plugged in. The Dockstream 2 Cordless has both modes; the Plug-In runs continuously or on an app schedule. A Dockstream RFID model (PLWF305) is not covered here; Petlibro's other fountains are compared in our best cat water fountains.
Claimed vs measured
Petlibro's noise and battery figures are seller claims nobody we found has measured.
| Metric | Petlibro claims | Independent result | Who, when, conditions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Noise, Dockstream 2 | "At just 23 dB" (petlibro.com, search snippet); "whisper-quiet" on the US pages we opened | not independently measured | cats.com repeats 23 dB for the original (10/16/2025) with no meter or method |
| Battery, Cordless | 5,000 mAh (Amazon); "up to 30 days per charge" (Petlibro blog snippets) | not independently measured | none found |
| Battery, Dockstream 2 Cordless | "Up to one month of operation on a single charge" (PetSmart), "based on usage by a single pet with sensor-activated water flow mode" (petlibro.com snippet) | not independently measured | none found |
| Scale, Dockstream 2 | "weighing precision has increased by 33%" (Petlibro, snippet) | not independently measured | none found |
The one independent account we found is not a measurement: cats.com's Dockstream 2 review (01/29/2026) reports the reviewer's cats would not drink from it in sensor mode on battery. Amazon's review summaries mark battery life "mixed" on every cordless listing. The runtime, noise, and Wi-Fi figures are Petlibro's own, not measured: for the Cordless, "the battery can last up to 30 days when utilizing its reserve power and initiating water flow 48 times a day" (pre-sale FAQ); for the Dockstream 2 Cordless, "up to 30 days*," where "*Based on 30 drinking sessions per day, with each session lasting 45 seconds"; and "Whisper-quiet 23 dB" and "Connectivity 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz" on the Dockstream 2 product page (petlibro.com, 10/14/2026).
Real price: list, street, tax, shipping and subscription
Every US price here is a retailer's as of 10/09/2026, when petlibro.com returned HTTP 429. On 10/14/2026 petlibro.com listed the Dockstream 2 at $79.99 (Plug-In) and $89.99 (Cordless) and the Dockstream Cordless at $69.99, with no listing for the original; its product pages print shipping at $5.99 under $34.99, $9.99 for $35 to $98.99, and free over $99.
- Dockstream Cordless: $61.99 on Amazon, list $69.99, Black; the White listing was unavailable.
- Dockstream 2 Plug-In: $79.99 on Amazon in Black or White, no list price shown.
- Dockstream 2 Cordless: $71.99 on sale at PetSmart, $89.99 regular, under a "Save up to 20% on ALL Petlibro products thru 10/12" promotion. Amazon had no new offer for it.
Amazon showed free delivery for these in-stock offers; we did not reach a checkout. Sales tax varies by state. No subscription is required, and hydration tracking is sold as a product feature. The Petlibro app's paid plan is Petlibro Care, $47.99 a year for one pet or $103.99 for several; Petlibro says "No subscription is needed to use your Petlibro smart feeder or fountain," that one subscription "works across all your Petlibro smart products," and, for fountains, "With a Petlibro Care subscription, data from all fountains is synced. Without it, each fountain tracks separately" (petlibro.com, 10/14/2026). No financing offer showed on any page we opened.

Category median first-year cost in our database: $145.
Filters set the running cost: the 8-pack is $18.39 on Amazon (list $22.99), and one filter every two weeks comes to about $60 a year. At Petlibro's own prices and printed shipping (petlibro.com, 10/14/2026), before sales tax (varies by state):
- Dockstream Cordless: $69.99 plus $9.99 shipping plus about $60 in filters: about $140. On Amazon it was $61.99 (10/09/2026), before shipping.
- Dockstream 2 Plug-In: $79.99 plus $9.99 shipping plus about $60 in filters: about $150. Amazon had the same $79.99 (10/09/2026).
- Dockstream 2 Cordless: $89.99 at petlibro.com, or $71.99 on sale at PetSmart ($89.99 regular, 10/09/2026), plus about $60 a year in filters; our first-year figure for the Dockstream 2 is the Plug-In's.
- Original Dockstream: no current price, so no total.
Petlibro gives no battery life span or replacement interval for the cordless models, and its warranty excludes batteries, so a replacement battery is not in these totals. The smaller filter packs cost more per filter: $16.96 for six, $12.99 for four.

Chewy's Dockstream pages did not open for our tools on 10/09/2026 or 10/14/2026, so we have no Chewy prices or ratings. PetSmart no longer lists the original or the first Cordless.
Warranty and returns
Petlibro's policy says 24 months, its manuals for other products print 12, and the Dockstream manuals didn't open for us. The refund policy (read on ca.petlibro.com, which says it covers petlibro.com too) states: "All Petlibro products are covered by a 24-month warranty." Amazon's Dockstream listings say "24 Months" and "covered for 2 years." Against that, Petlibro's Granary Wi-Fi feeder manual (V3.0, p.21) and Air feeder manual (p.15) print "12-month warranty," and an Amazon listing for Petlibro's Capsule fountain says "12 months." The Dockstream 2 and Cordless manuals linked from petlibro.com are image-only PDFs with no text our tools could search for a warranty line (10/14/2026).
The policy excludes normal wear, including "batteries, feeder rotor, desiccant bags, fountain filters, and placemats," says non-quality issues are not covered after 30 days, and asks for proof of purchase from an authorized retailer. Returns to Petlibro: "Returns will only be accepted within 30 days of purchase," in original packaging, and "The buyer is responsible for all return shipping costs." The paid Petlibro Care plan ($47.99 or $103.99 a year) lists "Free device replacement coverage" and says, "If your device runs into any issues while your subscription is active, we'll provide free repair or a replacement"; its FAQ says it "currently supports all Petlibro smart device" (petlibro.com, 10/14/2026). We did not read the plan's full terms.
Parts, consumables and support in the US
One filter fits the whole line. PetSmart's filter page says "Fits all PETLIBRO Dockstream water fountain models," and the Amazon 8-pack listing names the PLWF115, PLWF106, and PLWF116. Each filter comes with a pre-filter pump sponge; Petlibro lists four stages: ion exchange resin, activated carbon, non-woven fabric, and sponge. We found no US price for a spare wireless pump for the original or the Cordless: Petlibro's comparison page links a "Dockstream Replacement Pump" for both, but the link opens the petlibro.com home page (10/14/2026).
Support contact is thin: the Google Play listing gives tech@petlibro.com for Designlibro Inc. in Santa Clara, California. We found no support phone line or hours.
Pump, filters and cleaning
The first two versions have a pump in the water; the Dockstream 2 has none. On the original, "Only the water pump of the cat fountain is wireless," and Amazon's listing says to clean the pump at least once a week and change filters every two weeks. On the Cordless, the Amazon listing says "Please wash the wireless pump every two weeks"; PetSmart's filter page says "Recommend to replace filters every two weeks." On the Dockstream 2, Amazon's bundle listing says "replace the PETLIBRO filter every 2 weeks and clean the fountain weekly."
Dishwasher guidance conflicts on the Dockstream 2's stainless steel tray: PetSmart and Amazon call it "dishwasher-safe," while PetSmart's own warnings section says "Not dishwasher safe." We found no dishwasher statement for the original or the Cordless.
App and privacy
The Petlibro app rates very differently on the two stores: 4.5 of 5 over 7,400 ratings on the App Store and 2.2 over 3,240 on Google Play (10/09/2026). It runs the original Dockstream and the Dockstream 2, not the Cordless. On the original, Amazon's review summary marks app functionality mixed (116 mentions) and water monitoring positive (104). The Dockstream 2 tracks water intake with a built-in scale.
The App Store privacy section lists "Data Linked to You" for app functionality: email address, photos or videos, and audio data; precise and coarse location are listed as not linked to you, and there is no "Data Used to Track You" section. Google Play's data safety section says "No data shared with third parties," that data "is encrypted in transit," and that "You can request that data be deleted." The same app runs Petlibro's feeders, which are in our best automatic cat feeders guide.
Recalls and safety notices
We found no recall for any Petlibro product. The saferproducts.gov recall API and a cpsc.gov site search returned 0 results for "petlibro" and 0 for "pet fountain" on 10/09/2026, and the recall API returned 0 for both again on 10/14/2026; "water fountain" returned only an unrelated 2001 recall. The incident-report search on saferproducts.gov was not conclusive.

Reviews on the brand's own site and reviews written for a free product are not counted. Store ratings change over time; the date shows when we checked.
Not enough owner reviews read yet (0 read on Amazon, PetSmart, Chewy, and Reddit). What we can report is each listing's star rating and Amazon's own summary of its reviews, as of 10/09/2026:
- Cordless, Black (Amazon): 3.7 of 5 over 3,595 ratings. Amazon's summary says 678 customers mention reliability (mixed), 290 battery life (mixed), and 262 durability (negative); 713 mention quality, 392 ease of cleaning, and 358 noise level positively.
- Cordless, White (Amazon): 4.0 over 2,782 ratings; reliability mixed (524), battery life mixed (248), durability negative (213).
- Dockstream 2 Cordless: 3.4 over 459 ratings on Amazon and 3.6 over 56 on PetSmart. Amazon's summary: quality mixed (145), reliability mixed (143), durability negative (43), battery life mixed (41); ease of cleaning (54) and quiet operation (49) positive.
- Original: 4.0 over 1,624 ratings on Amazon; effectiveness positive (370), reliability mixed (277), value for money negative (158), durability negative (120).
The Dockstream 2 Plug-In listing shows 4.3 stars over 20,408 ratings, but that pool spans the Capsule fountain, filters, the RFID fountain, the Splash Shield, and a pet camera, so it is not the Dockstream 2 rating. Durability is the one topic Amazon marks negative on every Dockstream listing.
Pros and cons
Pros
- The Cordless lists a 5,000 mAh battery and a 19.7 in (50 cm) motion sensor, so it can sit away from an outlet.
- Dockstream 2 has no pump in the water ("pump-free design") and a 101 fl oz (3 L) tank, against 84 fl oz on the first two.
- One filter for every version, $18.39 for eight on Amazon, about $60 a year.
- Petlibro's policy lists a 24-month warranty, twice PetSafe's and PETKIT's one year.
- No subscription required; the Petlibro app holds 4.5 stars over 7,400 App Store ratings.
Cons
- Battery claims ("up to one month") come only from the seller; Amazon's summaries rate battery life as mixed on all cordless listings.
- Durability is the negative topic in Amazon's summary on every Dockstream listing.
- Warranty conflict: 24 months on Petlibro's policy, "12-month warranty" in Petlibro's feeder manuals, and batteries excluded.
- The app holds 2.2 stars over 3,240 Google Play ratings.
- The original Dockstream had no seller offer on 10/09/2026.
FAQ
What's the difference between the Dockstream and the Dockstream 2?
The Dockstream 2 holds 101 fl oz (3 L) against 84 fl oz (2.5 L), has no pump in the water, and tracks intake with a built-in scale. The original Dockstream and the Cordless use a wireless pump that sits in the bowl. The Dockstream 2 comes as a Plug-In (PLWF106) or a Cordless (PLWF116); all versions take the same filter.
How long does the Petlibro Dockstream battery last?
Up to one month, by Petlibro's claim for the Dockstream 2 Cordless with one pet in sensor mode; the original Cordless lists 5,000 mAh with no runtime on Amazon. Nobody we found has measured either, and Amazon's summaries mark battery life mixed on every cordless listing.
Does the Petlibro Dockstream need an app or a subscription?
No subscription. The Cordless has no app; the original and the Dockstream 2 use the Petlibro app for alerts and intake tracking, and the optional Petlibro Care plan ($47.99 or $103.99 a year) adds synced tracking across fountains and, per Petlibro, device replacement coverage (petlibro.com, 10/14/2026).
How often do you change the Dockstream filter?
Every two weeks, per Petlibro's Amazon and PetSmart listings. The 8-pack is $18.39 on Amazon (10/09/2026), about $60 a year. The original's listing adds cleaning the pump at least weekly, the Cordless every two weeks, and the Dockstream 2 says to clean the fountain weekly.
Can the Dockstream 2 tray go in the dishwasher?
The listings disagree. PetSmart and Amazon call the stainless steel tray "dishwasher-safe," while PetSmart's warnings on the same page say "Not dishwasher safe." Petlibro's manual didn't open for us. Other fountains are ranked in our best cat water fountains.
